SBL-NYC Newsletter Issue #2 October, 2008

Hey! Need a substitute?
SLB Executive Committee
This year, at the captain's meeting, it was decided that all teams would be responsible for finding their own substitute bowlers. We are pleased to announce that we are here to make this easier for you! On the website, there is now a space for you to get in contact with substitutes.

All you have to do is click here and you can check to see who we have available to bowl. An email will be created and sent to the bowler you choose.

SUBSTITUTES - Please make sure you know either the team or person you are substituting for. It will make setting you up once you get to the alley much easier.

Meet The Committee
SLB Executive Committee
The Executive Committee would like to take a moment and introduce ourselves to you. Some of you may know us, some of you may not. Over the next few newsletters, we will be featuring one member of the Executive Committee for you to get to know. This month, we focus on our President, Ross Hewitt.

rossRoss Hewitt
SBL President
This is Ross's 3rd season as an officer, and 5th season with SBL. He finished first in All-Events in the 2008 Gotham Open Tournament, the regional IGBO affair for the NYC metro area. It was the highlight of his bowling journey so far, having bowled an average of 200+ for 9 games (his normal average is 163). In the past two years, he bowled his first 600 series (3 games). His new bowling goal is a 700 scratch series--that will take the ultimate in consistency! He prides himself on having learned how to throw a hook ball on his own. He is happy to coach anyone who asks. Of course he likes to bowl well, but his main goal is having fun--not only for himself but for all involved in the Sunday Bowling League.

Pro shop at 300 welcomes Sunday Bowling League!
SLB Executive Committee
Rocky Magnotta, the Manager of the Pro Shop at 300 New York, welcomes SBL members! Just mention you are a league member to receive the 10 to 20% discount he offered when we bowled there. He and his staff can drill the holes in a new ball you might want to purchase (even if you don't buy it there), and can advise you on what type of ball is best for you and give you other helpful hints about other bowling equipment.

Weekly statistic sheets available for you!

Jeffrey Bonacci: SBL Secretary
Some of you may or may not know that every week, I place the "Weekly Statistics" up on our website. I know it was a pet pieve of mine last year that I had to scan our stat sheets in every week (uhm... yeah... cause I'm super anal-retentive that way...) to pass out to my team members. I thought it would be great, this year, if every week they were put up where you could actually download them yourself, if, like me, you like to keep those things around.

All you have to do is direct your web browser to http://www.sblnyc.com/downloads and on the sidebar, you will see all of the available weekly statistics. Clicking each week will either bring up another window (in Internet Explorer on the PC and on Safari on the Mac) or automatically download the file for you to where your downloads usually go. All of these sheets are high resolution PDFs, so make sure you have updated your Acrobat Reader so that you are able to view them.

In addition to the weekly statistic sheets, I make a print out of all of the scores for each week. If this is something that you would like to have for your records, by all means, please contact me and I will make a separate distribution list for those that want this as well.

USBC Sanction Fees
Remember, Deadline for the USBC Sanction Fee is 10/19/08.
We still have about 1/2 of the league who have not paid for their USBC fees. Again, the fee is $19, payable by check or cash. If you are paying by check, please make it payable to NYCUSBC Association. You will receive both a receipt from your USBC Sanction card form and from Jeffrey Bonacci for your records. Once everyone has paid the fees, we will send off the forms to USBC and your new 2008/2009 card should be in the mail within 6-8 weeks.

Ross' Tip DuJour
Bowling Follow Through
Ross Hewitt; SBL President

Great bowling form demands a correct bowling follow through. After releasing the bowling ball, your hand should come up until it passes in front of your eyes, and is directly in line with the pins at the point you want the bowling ball to strike. As you finish, your hand should be outstretched as though reaching for the target. This will direct the ball to go exactly where you want it to go!

Pictures!
For anyone that happens to take pictures during our usual Sunday Night Bowling, I would love to get them up on the website for everyone to see! Please contact Jeffrey Bonacci and he will make sure to post your pictures on our website. Have pictures from past years you think you might want to share? Let him know!

Halloween Party!
Richard White will be hosting a Halloween Party on Saturday, October 25th. Anyone who is interested in coming to the party may contact him or Jose and they will give you directions to the party. Hope to see you there!

IGBO Tournaments
Make sure you check out our sister organization IGBO to see the latest events happening there. CLICK HERE to look at upcomming tournaments! If you have never been to an IGBO event, they are a lot of fun.
